From a very young age, I struggled in education. I was eventually put into special education classes from for most of my K-12 education. I was told that I was not good enough to attend college. However, that is not what God had planned for my life. He called me back to the place that men said I did not belong. I get the honor of shining in the realm of Higher Education.
I am currently the project coordinator for TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) at Thomas Nelson Community College. SSS is a federal outreach and student services program in the United States, designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. SSS is administered, funded, and implemented by the United States Department of Education. TRiO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. Their existence is owed to the passing of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
Every day, I get the chance to speak in the lives of students who face so many barriers to success.
I believe that God has placed me in this field to help these students.I am supposed to be a bridge of access to them, helping each one get from their reality to their dreams.I pray that you are blessed by my testimony and no matter what is going on around you that you are reminded that God has a plan for your life. It looks dark right now, but you will win in the end. Keep pushing; Keep fighting because God is with you!
